Here is a solo deck for Rex Murphy which is by far my favorite investigator. It is doing pretty well through the Dunwich Legacy campaign.
Improvements from the first version
Upon testing (mainly Dunwich campaign), I noticed that I needed to be more effective at evading so I swapped Guts for Manual Dexterity. Although I really like Fire Axe, it was not very efficient in this deck and made me use too much resources which I now prefer to use with Hyperawareness for evasion attempt or to ensure Rex's ability triggers. So in this version, I replaced Fire Axe with Knife and added an extra copy of Scavenging to recycle thrown knives. With the remaining slot, Dynamite Blast was the card to go since the deck generates a lot of resources.
I also chose to replace Emergency Cache with more useful cards since there is no need for extra resources with this deck.
Deduction is not very useful with Rex so I opted for Guts.
I never came to use Seeking Answers. I think this card may be useful in multiplayer games where your fellow investigators reveal locations before you do. I decided to replace it with Strange Solution, not really for the effect but for the reusable icon and the fact it has the Item trait : you can commit it to tests and get it back with Scavenging !
Out of class cards
Rex's ability to get an additional clue is a very powerful one. Burglary and Scavenging take advantage of it : with only one action you get a clue, 3 resources and a card. With Scavenging you can back knives you threw and it will become great later on with Disc of Itzamna.
Finally, I added Dynamite Blast for dealing damage to multiple enemies without pulling from the chaos bag.
Deck goals and cards
This deck is meant to rush the Act deck and leverage Rex's ability to get an extra clue.
This deck is low on resources and can generate lots of it through the use of Burglary and Dr. Milan Christopher. At first, I didn't include Hyperawareness but I noticed I often had 5+ unused resources at the end of the game so I added it and it helps trigger Rex's ability or succeed at evasions.
Fast events like Shortcut and Working a Hunch help rush the scenario or help with the tempo (see excellent article by unitled). Concerning Working a Hunch, you may find that sometimes it is better to commit it to an investigation check instead of playing it. For example, if there is only one clue at your location and you have Burglary and Scavenging in play.
"I've got a plan!" is here for when you must kick some ass (Ghoul Priest and The Masked Hunter to name a few).
Never used Seeking Answers but I'm curious about this card so I included it for testing purpose. Maybe one day it will save my life !
Upgrading
When upgrading, look no further than Pathfinder. This card is huge. And you can have 2 in play ! As written above, it helps with the tempo and rushing the Act deck. It is a mandatory upgrade.
Then, go for Disc of Itzamna and Magnifying Glass.
It's not easy to choose what to drop while upgrading. Candidates are Strange Solution (since you already one copy of Disc of Itzamna, the second copy can be used for the "commit and get back with Scavenging" strategy), Shortcut (Pathfinder kind of replace it even if it's nice to have both) and Mind over Matter.
I'm 4 scenarios into the Dunwich Legacy campaign and this deck has been money.
