This deck is part of a series provided for people who have only a single core set & the Dunwich expansions. The rationale is that most of the decks on this site assume 2 core sets. If you have just 1 core set, you don't have much freedom in your deck, so there is not much point in publishing specialty decks. But if you have 1 core + Dunwich, you have some freedom in deck construction but not a lot of guidance.
As published, this deck should be considered a "Solo" version. In pair play there will not be enough skill cards available for everyone to have 2, so you will need to change out some of the skill cards here for other cards. The pickings are rather slim for Pete and other Dunwich Investigators, but Newspaper, Smoking Pipe, and Painkillers are worth considering.
This deck has 4 premium allies. Your primary interest is in getting one of them out early on. Peter Sylvestre's purpose is to prevent "Ashcan" Pete from going insane. "Ashcan" Pete is a very fragile investigator, having only 6 health and 5 sanity. Sure, you can put some damage/horror on Duke, but you really hate to lose him. Peter Sylvestre is great at soaking up horror.
The Flashlights in this deck allow Pete to investigate a second time without readying Duke. Note that using a Flashlight is better than just getting 2 added to your intellect. If all Flashlight did was give you 2 extra intellect, it wouldn't really be worth it---either in general or with Pete. In particular, Flashlights really shine [geddit?] in locations with Shroud = 1 or 2. _If the shroud of a location is 1 or 2 and you use a flashlight, the only way you can fail the skill test if you draw ._
Here's why: say the shroud of a location is 2. Using a flashlight brings it down to 0. Say you investigate with an intellect of 2 and get a -5 chaos token. Your adjusted skill for the test is not -3. It is 0. Your adjusted skill is 0, and the shroud is 0, so you win. Only on an do you lose.
In this deck Shrivelling is played to give you a backup attack option if necessary. Prior to getting Shrivelling out, you can keep 1 knife handy to throw if you need to attack without Duke. Otherwise, use both hand slots to help investigation (Flashlight + Magnifying Glass) and use the knives for their attack icons.
When you level up, look to add Charisma and Bulletproof Vest. The first lets Pete benefit from multiple premium allies. The second keeps him alive.

Mar 21, 2017Ah, my mistake! The filter changed back and I didn't catch it. I'll edit. |
Jun 08, 2017Great to see a 1 core deck - I can't justify buying a second core! I was going to say that the deck is quite heavy on allies but I see your note about adding Charisma on levelling up. |
Jun 08, 2017I think 3-4 allies is generally a good amount even without charisma. Allies, like most assets, are most useful the earlier you can play them, so with 3-4 you have a pretty good chance of getting one very early. The main exception to this is if you are playing Leo De Luca. I sometimes avoid having any other allies if I have 2 copies of him simply because I typically only want him out and I'm very unlikely to kill him off if I can help it. |
Do you get 2 magnifying glasses in the core set? I can only find one
