Shining-Minh.png

When Minh found that Fire Axe, she knew she had to go for Wendy. The King in Yellow told her to.

What if Minh was actually a sick killer in a Seeker's outfit, during the day, at night? You don't think so? Look at her sweater...

Find the full XP version here.

Upgrade Path:

That gives a better understanding of how to turn Minh in a fighter:

• Dream Diary x1 Dream Diary x1 - Get a +4 every turn when engaged with an enemy

In her Diary, one single sentence: All work and no play makes Minh a dull girl.

• Strange Solution x2 Strange Solution x2

Use an Acid version of the Flamethrower.

• Gravedigger's Shovel x2 Backpack x2 to dig your good cards faster: Strange Solution, Dream Diary, Fire Axe, Grisly Totem

Never go into a maze, running after your child into a maze without packing up your essential crazy-killer kit.

• Emergency Cache x2 Emergency Cache (3) x2 - to reload your Acidthrower

The ballroom has plenty of bottles of premium liquor... though some of them taste a bit... Acid.

• Old Keyring x2 Mind over Matter (2) for a turn at +4 (and a card draw)

Once you opened Room 237, you have no need for keys anymore. There is no way back, your Axe is the extension of your crazy mind.

• Grisly Totem x1 Grisly Totem x1

While digging in the front yard, you found a grave with Native American writings and a beautiful statue with strange carvings that looks nice in your room, right next to your most important book.

If you have more XP, or before Grisly Totem (3) you can also turn Anatomical Diagrams into Expose Weakness (3) for autowin against bosses.

Lucid in her insanity, Minh knows how to find the best way to hurt and torture her prey.

Other cards:

• Fire Axe + Dark Horse are the usual good friends, boost your fight and get +1 damage and +1 when you're all the way to 0

No one expected the young and inoffensive looking Minh to turn that way, a dark-horse student armed with the first thing she could find, the emergency Axe.

• Madame Labranche gives you an extra resource when you're at 0 that you turn into +2 with your Fire Axe

Madame Labranche was a very well-appreciated customer of the Hotel, spending every summer for 20 years in Room 312 until she disappeared in 1893 supposedly while taking a hike. Her body was never found. Since then, no one dared to rent that room. Some say they hear her speaking to customers at night.

• Grisly Totem and your to boost your stats as you commit a lot of Skill cards (and to help against your Signature Weakness)

Sometimes, it feels like this decoration item vibrates... or is it your vision playing you tricks?

• Gravedigger's Shovel to help you fighting before you find your Fire Axe, that you can discard for a little bonus when you find your main weapon.

No one wants to know who's grave was dug.. or undug using this Shovel, all you know is that it seems overly used.

• Anatomical Diagrams to have better chances fighting an enemy that's a bit beefy.

With great knowledge comes great power, with great power, comes great responsibility. Better not turning insane...

• Rise to the Occasion helps you to fight 4 Combat enemies (that are not uncommon)

Everyone judged Minh on her appearance, it has always been a pride to rise to the occasion and surprise her opponents, until that behavior took over her completely.

• Take Heart to fail an Evade test and get the resources you need to put down your 3 resources cards: Analytical Mind, Grisly Totem, Dark Horse.

You've always been able to make the best out of your failures. No one was able to get rid of you that easily.

• Perception or Inquiring Mind to upgrade your Strange Solution or find those harder to get clues/fight those harder to fight enemies.

You were smart and curious when you arrived. It feels like it was another life, another person. What if it was?...

Skills:

Fight: Good With all your skill cards and dedicating your money to Fire Axe, you should be able to have full turns at 3 on top of your opponent's fight value for 2 damage per attack, with no ammo involved.

Clue: Good Same as above, your base skill of 4 gives you a good start, Old Keyring helps or gives autowin on 2 shrouds. Inquiring Mind/Perception for the rest.

Encounter Prot: Good Your 4 gives you a good base not to be too bruised. Essence of the Dream can help for the I can't fail this one encounter card or if you have no enemy to deal with.

Resource: Good

Unless you have to pay for your Dark Horse/Analytical Mind/Grisly Totem, once you have Madame Labranche, money is not a problem anymore.

Drawing: Good

Grisly Totem/Analytical Mind give you 2 draws per turn once in play.

Tempo: Great

The deck has a lot of drawings, cheap cards, and Skills, it goes fast.

Tutoring: Average

Backpack (2) gives access to your Items really fast, before this, mulligan hard for Analytical Mind and at least a weapon.

Damage/Horror: bad

You have balanced stats, which is a good start... but that's all you have. If you don't kill an enemy in the first turn, you'll have no choice but to get bruised.

Conclusion:

Fun deck to play, it feels good to be even crazier than Zoey.

It works fine in Solo in easier difficulty, and even better in Multiplayer, ideally paired with Carolyn Fern, because you DO need therapy. Go on a Group-therapy trip by onboarding Zoey Samaras.

Interesting theme and slightly racist...but is that 8 hand slot assets? If you have a Dream Diary and Fire Axe out, what would you discard when the King in Yellow comes knocking? And how would you play your keys and shovels?

And why exactly the Shovel when there's a perfectly good Working a Hunch? Before you say its for combat, fighting at 4 or 5 fight with the Shovel with no bonus damage is not exactly a winning strategy.

The tempo and draw of a deck that's half assets is definitely not what I'd consider terribly good unless you could always luck into Analytical Mind early on.

I'm sorry if it came across racist, that was not my intent and I can't find how when I re-read the theme, so my apologies if it did.

Concerning all the hand slots, they are made to evolve.

Use one hand to fight and one for Dream Diary/Old Keyring/The King in Yellow.

Use the Gravedigger's Shovel as the main weapon while you're still digging for your Fire Axe.

Found your Axe? Get a free clue discarding your Shovel and put it down.

On the other hand, use your Keyring if you need to investigate, put down Dream Diary only if you've had your The King in Yellow already or if you're sure to interpret your dreams in the same turn, not to lose it before it's done.

You draw The King in Yellow while your Dream Diary and Fire Axe are down, while you have your second Fire Axe in your hand? Then maybe discard your Fire Axe as it is very likely that getting rid of your The King in Yellow will interpret your dreams at the same time.

Got your Axe on your starting hand? Keep those shovels for the icon to get rid of The King in Yellow as soon as it comes.

Later on, if the The King in Yellow shows up, keep your updated Dream Diary and lose your Fire Axe. If you haven't got the second one yet, use one of your Backpack (2) to dig it out.

Basically there's no recipe, having so many options just gives a lot of flexibility and allows you to do what feels like the best option when it shows up.

"Shaominh Monk does kungfu" is already an ordinary racist pun in itself, (considering there's no actual kungfu in this deck and Minh is neither Chinese nor a monk), so no slippery slope there lol.

Shovel is godawful as a weapon, even the clue flexibility can't save it if you intend for it to tide you over until you get Fire Axe. Would suggest switching it with the Meat Cleaver/.18 Derringer actually.

The level 0 version does look rather clunky but the full xp version looks deece.

I thought about it but after trying multiple options in Hard Solo this option turned out to be the most successful.

The Shovel has a big advantage in a Dark Horse deck: it is to be 2 resources, when both Meat Cleaver and .18 Derringer need you to either click for a resource or have Dark Horse deactivated a whole turn (if Madame Labranche is already down).

Meat Cleaver is not an option in this deck as there is no Horror Soak and it is already a bit tight as it is.

.18 Derringer (0) is too clunky in a Dark Horse deck for the amount of Ammo available.

There's the usual, better Seeker options like Mind over Matter (0) and Occult Invocation which are almost strictly better for the same purpose. Though it is a theme deck, so there's no point thinking about optimizations too hard, otherwise you would never have taken the Fire Axe in the first place.

Still. It must be said that with the Shovel on Hard, even with Dark Horse activated, that's just 50% chance to kill a Brood of Yig or a Swift Byakhee or a Poltergeist on the turn it spawns on you, to say nothing of tougher stuff like Agent of the King or Priestess of the Coven. Even if you commit to a test or two, the chance doesn't improve much beyond 30%. And if you don't have the Dark Horse bonus, the odds become completely rubbish. I am frankly astounded that you find it usable.

At least post upgrade, it turns into a standard Dark Horse Strange Solutions Minh that just happens to carry axes, which is quite playable.

* O'Bannion's Thug (not sure how that got autocompleted into Poltergeist)
