Jenny Barnes calmly slides a Knuckleduster over her fingers, then replaces the the cotton glove. Time to kick @$$.
Knuckleduster, like Machete, is appealing because it can hit unlimited times without needing to be replaced or reloaded. But its lack of combat bonus is too limiting for most investigators. Jenny Barnes may be able to get around this because of her unmatched resource potential and access to Hard Knocks. Once Knuckleduster and Hard Knocks are in play, Switchblade is not helpful and the upgraded Switchblade and .41 Derringer are not worth the cost since you could just pump those resources into Hard Knocks and fill those card slots with something else. The major drawback is that keeping a permanent one handed melee weapon clashes with Jenny's Twin .45s.
Deck breakdown:
Core of deck: Knuckleduster, Hard Knocks, Arcane Studies
Swarm control: Storm of Spirits, Elusive
To find Knuckleduster: Backpack
Extra actions (helps attacking, investigating, and resources/draw if needed!): Leo De Luca, Quick Thinking
Economy: Magnifying Glass (only here to save resources from Arcane Studies!), Decorated Skull, Lone Wolf, cantrip skills
Healing: (important with extra damage coming from Knuckleduster's retaliation effect): Liquid Courage
Will post updates after trying this out.

Jul 21, 2018What are some of your ideas for spending experience with this deck @jmmeye3? I was thinking about at least taking the new Hard knocks for cheaper play. Is it worth it for the cheaper Leo? |
Jul 22, 2018Your math is super off. Why did you double the resources required to play Jenny's Twin .45s? And why didn't you count Knuckleduster + Hard Knocks as cards and actions? Here's the true math: Jenny's Twin .45s: X resources + one card + one action + y actions --> y attacks with +2 combat strength and +1 damage, up to a maximum of X times. Knuckleduster + Hard Knocks: XX resources + 4 + two cards + two actions + y actions --> y actions with +2 combat strength and +1 damage, for which the enemy gains retaliate. If used once, Jenny's Twin .45s costs you 2 actions and 1 resource, granting you a single attack with +2 strength and +1 damage. If used once, Knuckleduster and Hard Knocks costs 3 actions, and 6 resources, granting you a single attack with +2 strength and +1 damage. Used twice, Jenny's Twin .45s is 3 actions and 2 resources. Knuckleduster and Hard Knocks used twice is 4 actions and 8 resources. Three times, Jenny's Twin .45s is 4 actions and 3 resources, while the two card combo is 5 actions and 10 resources. I'm super confused. Could you please explain yourself? |

You could ask "what if you didn't have the knuckleduster and hard knocks in play already?" To compare, let's assume you replace the .45 Automatic with another one when it's out of ammo to see what the ongoing cost would be for attacks at 1 combat, +1 damage. .45 Automatic 1st attack - 1 card, 2 actions (one to play), 4 resources 2nd attack - 1 card, 3 actions, 4 resources 3rd attack - 1 card, 4 actions, 4 resources 4th attack - 1 card, 5 actions, 4 resources 5th attack - 2 cards, 7 actions, 8 resources 6th attack - 2 cards, 8 actions, 8 resources 7th attack - 2 cards, 9 actions, 8 resources 8th attack - 2 cards, 10 actions, 8 resources 9th attack - 3 cards, 12 actions, 12 resources 10th attack - 3 cards, 13 actions, 12 resources Knuckleduster and Hard Knocks 1st attack - 2 cards, 3 actions, 5 resources 2nd attack - 2 cards, 4 actions, 6 resources 3rd attack - 2 cards, 5 actions, 7 resources 4th attack - 2 cards, 6 actions, 8 resources 5th attack - 2 cards, 7 actions, 9 resources 6th attack - 2 cards, 8 actions, 10 resources 7th attack - 2 cards, 9 actions, 11 resources 8th attack - 2 cards, 10 actions, 12 resources 9th attack - 2 cards, 11 actions, 13 resources 10th attack - 2 cards, 12 actions, 14 resources From this you can see that the .45 Automatic does not save you much over the long term, even when compared head to head with total costs of Knuckleduster and Hard Knocks. Of course, you are unlikely to have an unlimited supply of guns as well, and Knuckleduster is always better than an empty firearm. The retaliate effect could be problematic, so I have to see how that plays out, but it is potentially less dangerous than Machete's limitation which can make you weaker when you need to kill multiple engaged enemies. |
Jul 23, 2018Wow that text all jumbled together, sorry. |
I really like this approach. After playing with Ashcan and Duke lately, I’ve realized how important easy damage can be.
