This is my level 0 deck of my Big Money Leo Anderson deck. This deck revolves around using and abusing Agency Backup. This ally is incredibly powerful. Many have panned it a bit because of the high cost, but Leo is an awesome home for it with his ability as well as his Rogue access.

Upgrade Priority:

  • Charisma
  • Agency Backup (Replacing Guard Dog and x1 Alice Luxley)
  • Level 2 Beat Cop
  • Enchanted Blade
  • Vicious Blow

This is a resource heavy deck but in all my games of it (about 10) it actually ends up typically having a surplus of cash. With cards like Emergency Cache, Watch This, Investments, Lone Wolf, Calling in Favors, and just Leo’s ability, this deck can generate some serious money to help pay for Agency Backup and the other assets and events in the deck. I’ve played this solo only so far but it would work just as well in multiplayer. Let me know your thoughts on it and any changes you would make. Game on!

One thing i didn’t mention in my initial write up that isn’t apparent at first blush but became apparent after playing the deck more is how many free/fast actions this deck gives you. The big one are the two free triggered actions on Agency Backup to get clues or ping an enemy with damage. Leo’s ability also saves you an action to play all of these allies. Trusted is a fast action. Investments has its free triggered ability once its in play. In short, it ends up being a very efficient deck that saves you a lot of actions with so many fast or free triggered abilities

You might be able to get better action compression and cheaper clue gathering by running Evidence instead of Intel Report. It wouldn't work with Coup de Grace, but between Agency and Beat Cop it seems like a pretty reliable way to hoover clues. Maybe even run it in alongside Intel? Only other thing I might change is I'd think about running a copy or two of Elusive or Cat Burglar in the deck, solely because of how useful it is in a given situation where you wont be able to (or wont want to) kill an enemy, or just need to get somewhere quickly.

This looks ridiculously fun and I don't doubt Agency + Leo is going to be a good solo archetype for a while. Very excited to try this!

@StyxTBeufordThanks for the comment! Yeah I actually did have evidence in the deck initially but pulled it out for Coup de Grace though i think Evidence would still fit in here beautifully. I mostly just wanted to fit Coup de Grace in a deck as I’ve never used it before. It’s proven to be...ok. It has been useful at times and then it can sometimes sit in your hand for longer than you want it too. As far as upgrades are concerned, I am playing with the Taboo list in mind, so Elusive is a 2 xp card for me. My upgrade path i listed wasn’t totally comprehensive as it’s just the first things i would upgrade into. But I agree that Elusive would be a phenomenal upgrade as it’s still one of the best and most versatile cards in the game. I’d actually probably upgrade into it before Vicious Blow as i had originally outlined. But overall i absolutely agree with you that this is a fun archetype! I’ve been having a blast with it

I tried something very similar with great success. I used .45 Automatic instead of Enchanted Blade. Then has Venturer over level 0 Beat Cop to supply the ammo & abuse with Inspiring Presence.

I think .45 Thompson is a better upgrade choice over Enchanted Blade

No other weapons? Doesn't seem enough for solo

Jul 09, 2019 Calprinicus · 5780

Since the Venturer supplies ammo for the .45 Automatic I never really had an issue.

Jul 09, 2019 StyxTBeuford · 12985

I think @dubcity566is more referring to the lower chance of drawing a weapon. I think it'd be worthwhile to have both the .45 Auto and the Blade, and the Blade's upgrade is ridiculously good. However I'm not sure what you'd cut out to make room for them. So maybe Thompson is a better choice- perhaps we don't need weapons as much anyway with all the testless damage from our allies.

@Calprinicus yeah i think that’s a great idea. I love the enchanted blade especially the upgraded version for the versatility of it including card draw and horror healing. But yeah the 45 and Venturer are good too.

@dubcity566 Yeah having one weapon is totally fine in this deck as there’s so much testless damage from agency backup, Vicious Blow, upgraded beat cop that it can manage enemies just fine until you find your weapon

@jamjams32 @dubcity566 added my venturer variant as an inspiration deck.

Do you really think Investments is worth it? It takes 2 actions to use it and costs one, so you could have 3 resources by not playing the card. I don't think you break even until 3 turns have passed?

Jul 15, 2019 jamjams32 · 5965

@Dreadreaper Umm yes...very much worth it. It’s been a quiet MVP of the deck helping to pay for everything the deck is trying to do

Jul 15, 2019 Django · 5070

I tried something similar but didn't have time to finish it. What about First Aid 0 and First Aid 3 to get more uses out of them?

Also seems like a cool combo with Alice Luxley, have the agency take a clue and alice pings for 1 damage?

Also be aware that Agency Backup is not unique, so you can have 2 out at same time and Mitch Browns slots help as well.

Jul 15, 2019 jamjams32 · 5965

@Djangoyes that’s why Luxley is in there for the ping damage she can do off an agency backup trigger or even a scene of the crime play. And yes I’m aware that agency backup is not unique. I’ve had both out at once quite a few times and it’s bonkers good :)

@jamjams32When do you typically take money off Investments? Also, why not Flashlight over Intel Report?

Jul 16, 2019 jamjams32 · 5965

@Dreadreaper I think Flashlights would go just fine in here though I like the versatility of Intel Report as this deck makes a lot of money and can easily afford it. The testless clue acquisition this deck has is pretty incredible. I rarely have to test for clues with this deck. Finding clues with this deck (solo) has been no issue at all.

As far as Investments go, every game can be a tad different as far as when I pull off the money, but i try to take the money when there’s at least 7 or 8 on there. Again it depends on what the game state is like and what I need. It’s a card I obviously love to see in my opening hand to get the money rolling in

I wonder if Carolyn Fern could play Agency Backup. Her ability should give her more ressources than the average guardian. Then there's Crack the Case, Forbidden Knowledge and Peter Sylvestre...

She could even kill 2 HP enemies with them and ping Alice + Scene of the Crime, Drawn to the Flame...

Jul 18, 2019 StyxTBeuford · 12985

Yeah I think Carolyn and Leo are the best fits for Agency Backup. Mark Harrigan also likes it for the card draw and soak.

Holy wow, Batman! This deck looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Solo always feels like a massive up hill struggle but this looks like it'll work wonders. Just got into Forgotten Age and I can't wait to put this deck through its paces :D

Jul 18, 2019 jamjams32 · 5965

@Stuntmonkey I hope you enjoy it! It has been an incredible deck to play.

Also this is a spoiler that was just released from an upcoming card from the Before the Black Throne pack.... But wow, Hallowed Mirror would be PERFECT in this deck! Incredible card

Jul 19, 2019 Django · 5070

Hallowed Mirror: If you draw it, it's great but not very consistent with the limit and having to draw the other 2 Soothing Melodys as well.

The new seeker card Glimpse the Unthinkable is totally bonkers, especially if you have 2 Laboratory Assistants in play... Draw 12 cards?

Jul 19, 2019 jamjams32 · 5965

@Django Yeah as in any card game you have to draw the card. That’s a risk I’m willing to take for a card that will give me healing on my agency backup which is worth more free clues or damage as well as more card draw to find the other copies. Outstanding card IMO.

Yeah Glimpse looks good. But not sure why you bring up it and Laboratory Assistants here as Leo doesn’t have seeker access and can’t play them. But yes good card

Jul 20, 2019 jmmeye3 · 620

@Django @StyxTBeuford Carolyn Fern cannot use Agency Backup, because she can only include levels 0-3 guardian cards, right? That would have been nice, though.

Jul 21, 2019 StyxTBeuford · 12985

Ah yes you're right. For some reason I thought the only Guardian cards she couldn't take were the XP Weapons. That's alright. Still would really like to try it with Mark for the card draw.

Just found this deck and it looks very fun! I'm tempted to try it in 2-player with Grete Wagner instead of Alice and maaaaaybe Venturer instead of Beat Cop seeing as Grete makes the static fight boost from Beat Cop less relevant
