This deck is part of a new series I'll be publishing: The Independent Faux Seekers Series.
The basic idea is that you might want to give yourself some extra challenge and play a game without any seekers (currently by far the strongest faction). The goal is to provide decks that accomplish two goals:
- Allow a significant amount of clue finding
- Allow the investigator to mostly take care of himself or herself
The second point means that these decks could be played solo or as an efficient part of a pair-play. Typically, it is most efficient for investigators to split up because otherwise you have to invest a lot of moves in each of you visiting all the locations.
Because Jim is so flexible [he is really the only standard investigator who can investigate directly using or via using Rite of Seeking] it makes sense to adapt Jim to the other player you might be using. For example, Jim can get away with Dr. Milan Christopher, but he can certainly use him if your partner is not able to, like Wendy, or if your partner does not need Dr. Milan Christopher, as in the case with Roland.
This version assumes you are partnering with Wendy Adams. If you are partnering with Roland, switch out the Machetes for Fire Axes. Also, this deck has Painkillers on the theory that Wendy Adams will have Liquid Courage. If you are playing with Roland, you should ditch that for a second Fine Clothes or maybe a Unexpected Courage. I like Fine Clothes because it is a cheap, scavengable asset you can put out in case you get hit with Pushed into the Beyond or Crypt Chill.
This deck is essentially a version of the Invincible Jim deck that allows Jim to be more independent.
Jim is packing 2x Delve Too Deep because he really wants a ton of xp so he can buy Grotesque Statue. At some point you might consider buying 1x Song of the Dead to allow you to switch out 1 Machete for another Scavenging.
But the goal is to have 2x Grotesque Statue and at least 1x Scavenging. At that point Jim Culver is mostly invincible. If you gain some story allies, you should look to get Charisma so you always have a slot for Milan or (failing that) Alyssa Graham.
The two cards you are most wanting to get early are Dr. Milan Christopher and Machete. Throw away everything else in order to get them. Jim really needs help on his economy if he is playing as an independent investigator. [If the strategy is to stick together then Jewel of Aureolus can be super-powerful because it triggers on skill tests by any investigator in the location].
