So, I thought to myself, "Hey, I wonder if it's possible to have a deck that's entirely made of cards that ONLY have icons?" It turns out it is absolutely possible with the current card pool to do this with Lola. I got kind of excited once I realized this was possible, so I did try a few scenarios. Let's see how it went!
Q: So, how does this deck run? A: Terrible, thanks for asking! I played a few runs of The Gathering and a few runs of Extracurricular Activities, and I only got out of EA once, failed all the others. With this deck relying basically entirely on committing cards, Lola's ability really hamstrings you every step of the way.
Q: What does this deck need? A: Any means of dealing damage would be great. You're mostly able to get clues, and you're mostly able to evade, but if you want or have to kill an enemy...come back with some experience I guess. Card draw would also be extremely helpful as you are basically emptying your hand as fast as your roles allow committing to tests.
Q: What else could have gone in this deck? A: There are just a handful of level 0 -icon only cards that aren't here. Strange Solution, Leadership, Teamwork, Torrent of Power, and Rise to the Occasion. I also considered including cards with no icons, and that would make for a very Survivor heavy deck. Perhaps there's a reasonable deck to be made there in another investigator.
Q: What -icon only cards can you spend experience on? A: Well, if you do survive a scenario, you probably won't be walking away with a ton of xp. Then again, you don't have a huge number of upgrade options, but there are some fun ones! Here they are by class:
Mystic: Jewel of Aureolus, Crystalline Elder Sign, Defiance (2)
Rogue: Opportunist (2)
Seeker: Encyclopedia
Survivor: Rise to the Occasion (3), Stroke of Luck, Alter Fate, Rabbit's Foot (3), Flare
Neutral: The Red-Gloved Man
Survivor clearly wins here, not just by count but also in utility. Flare is the only card in the current card pool with only icons that allows you to deal more than one damage with an attack.
Finally, depending on how strict you wanted to be with this whole gimmick, you may or may not want to spend xp on permanent cards. On one hand, they have no wild icons, but on the other they don't go in your deck. So...I'll leave it to you. But, if you decide to go for a permanent, Streetwise is probably best since you'll want to evade most enemies as you have no options to kill them quickly.
That's it! Enjoy this stupid deck!
