Sketchy Expedition
“Art imitates life. Unfortunately, life imitates madness.”
Overview
Sefina Rousseau’s journey to the Edge of the Earth is equal parts art project and survival test. Sketchy Expedition is a flexible, event-driven deck that thrives on resource management, tempo control, and a touch of cosmic improvisation.
This build balances rogue self-sufficiency with mystic versatility, letting Sefina shift roles as the campaign evolves. She can handle burst clue-gathering and limited combat while leveraging event recursion and denial spells to keep the team alive.
At its heart, this deck is about control and rhythm — paint your hand early, then use powerful event combos and The Painted World to replay your strongest tools at the right moments.
Core Gameplan
Opening
- Mulligan for Lone Wolf, David Renfield, or Emergency Cache. Economy fuels everything.
- If you draw Open Gate early, consider placing it near the group’s hub — it’s mobility tech and an escape route.
- Early Holy Rosary or Robes of Endless Night stabilizes willpower and soak.
Early Setup
- Economy engine: David Renfield and Lone Wolf give you a dependable passive income. Reset Renfield safely with Calling in Favors when doom risk grows.
- Arcane slots: Sixth Sense is your investigative workhorse; Shrivelling or Spectral Razor handle emergencies.
- Event “palette”: The Painted World is your brush. Copy whichever event suits the situation — Deny Existence for survival, Spectral Razor for burst damage, Drawn to the Flame for clue bursts, Ethereal Form for temporary invisibility, or Open Gate for repositioning and safety.
Midgame
- Use Spectral Razor and Storm of Spirits when enemies threaten the group — they let you punch above your base stats.
- Drawn to the Flame and Sixth Sense provide efficient clue bursts when needed.
- Manage your hand deliberately — your opening draw is big but drains quickly.
- Lucky Cigarette Case and Manual Dexterity help maintain tempo and refill.
Late Game / Campaign Survival
- Deny Existence (or a Painted copy) is your best safety net against sudden damage or horror.
- Ethereal Form can buy you an entire turn when things spiral out of control.
- Drop doom from Renfield before advancing if timing gets tight — timing matters.
Role in the Team
- Primary: flexible utility and burst support (clues, emergency combat, denial).
- Secondary: mobility and tempo management (Open Gate network, Ward of Protection).
- Tertiary: spot damage dealer via Spectral Razor or Storm of Spirits.
In an expedition team, Sefina bridges gaps between specialists — helping wherever the map gets rough.
Strengths
- Extremely flexible — able to pivot mid-campaign.
- Excellent event economy — Renfield + Lone Wolf + Painted World + Emergency Cache provide sustained tempo.
- Strong survivability — Deny Existence, Ward, and Ethereal Form keep Sefina and the team alive.
- Thematically perfect — painting your way through Antarctic madness.
Weaknesses
- Limited sustained combat — relies on burst events rather than repeated physical attacks.
- Requires careful sequencing and timing — mismanaging Painted World can be punishing.
- Needs XP to smooth resource and tempo flow; early games may feel swingy.
