Double Dragon Early Marion
The idea of this deck is to abuse Double events to get as much extra juice of them as possible, as well as the Bold events that give extra juice if you play them on your first action.
Assets:
- A couple of Remingtons and Books of War - just use them as fast as possible and cycle them with the next asset. You can even use Act of Desperation to give them some extra juice before playing the next item. In this case, it is good that Marion only has one hand slot! Book of war can pick up 7 Tactic events from her deck, which is a big enough chunk to bring it on her adventure (Act of Desperation does not count since you need to discard the book before playing the event!).
- Brand of Cthugha - Just a great extra weapon that won't clutter her hand slot. That's what the extra XP is for.
- Hallowed Mirror - Card draw and healing is great for Marion, and you can chain these into other events. This is also very important since we take In The Thick of It, and the last campaigns have been laying it thick on the damage and horror.
- Madame Labranche - There are no Guardian allies that Marion may want, and she can help when we are low on money. I doubt Marion would run out of cards, but she can easily spend her allowance in a single turn if you aren't careful.
- Wolf Mask - This can be exchanged for anything else, but the extra and more importantly, , can help Marion survive for cheap.
- In the Thick of It - Just used to get Versatile and Brand of Cthugha.
- Versatile - Used to buy Thorough Inquiry, the other Double event that Marion might be interested in! (While there are more events she can access, this is the one she can't normally add to her deck that actually gives her a lot of value).
In short, most assets here are used to help Marion survive, or fight without spending her assets, while working in tandem with other events she may have.
Skills
- Overpower and Vicious Blow - More means bigger number which means more fun. Besides, she can struggle a bit on 3-4-5 tests, so the extra help is valuable.
- Stunning Blow - Used to evade on a pinch, but it is more of the same.
- Take heart - She will probably fail most tests, so this can give you a consolation prize that is often better than not failing the test.
Skills in this deck are mostly to work as grease, allowing you to speed up processes, draw cards or buy you some time by evading an enemy.
Events
Here goes the bulk of the deck. I'll write some thoughts on each card further down, but the three main points of the strategy are as follows:
- Play Fast events to play another event without spending actions (or Double events just spending one action, but still being on your first action.
- Play Double events together with other utility events to extract three actions worth of events in just two (or one, if you played a Fast event).
- Play Bold events after you play other events, particularly Kicking the Hornet's nest, as that allows you to pick an enemy from the encounter deck first, getting the early bird rewards in these events.
Event list:
- "Look what I found!" - It is Fast but you need to spend an action investigating. Still very worth it.
- Act of Desperation - Use it to attack with your Book of War and get your money back. Even better, use it to discard your Remington and automatically get a second attack due to the card's ability! A +1 +1 attack followed by a +3 +1 attack is a better card than One-Two Punch and it's free! You only need to have an asset on your hand. Bank Job - It is _Double*_ So make sure you play it with another event, but these will give you enough money to keep playing events as much as you want.
- Bide your Time - This is mostly for the bit, but Marion can actually get a better mileage out of it! Since she can play it spending just one action, she can magically turn one action into two actions next turn just by waiting!
- Elaborate Distraction - This event is Double and expensive. If you are playing in a 1 or 2 person team, it is probably not worth it, but it depends on the campaign, as some have lots of enemies anyway.
- Glory - Just some extra grease to draw more cards, and it is Fast! Use it to play more events for free.
- Kicking the Hornet's Nest - This is one of the most important events of the deck. It gives you money, it gives you a clue, and you actually want to draw enemies anyway! If you play it on your first turn, you can play a Bold event during that same window and get the early bird rewards!
- One-Two Punch - Just a good fight event.
- Ready for Anything - Bold. Great value, but even better if you play it during the Kicking the Hornet's Nest window, as you get to draw even more cards!
- Scene of the Crime - Bold. Same as the last event, play it with KTHN, or just during a regular enemy draw to get both clues.
- Swift Reflexes - Not a very good card, but it is Fast and the extra action may be useful.
- Task Force - Double. Just a neat event. Moving and getting a clue is already good value. Marion only has the Remington or Brand of Cthugha as valid targets for activation, but if you have a partner with appropriate assets you can help them with this.
- Tempt Fate - Just another Fast card that replaces itself, good for gaining tempo. and do not affect this deck, so disregard it as an after effect.
- Thorough Inquiry - Double. This is why we took trauma, mostly. It is another great way of gaining cards for you and your team, helping you keep up the tempo. Very worth it if you can chain it with another event to turn it into a regular event!
- Toe to Toe - More enemy management. Very tasty event that stops being scary thanks to our Soothing Melodies.
And that's it! Hope this helps other people look at Marion in another light and start considering the ways she can abuse her ability to get the most juice out of every event. She can grow in a lot of ways from here, but that is up to you! I might upload her leveled up deck later, after taking her through The Drowned City.

Thanks for checking the deck out, hope it works out fine! |
May 29, 2025I'd have to check, but I seem to recall a ruling that Marion has to play the Bold event first. |
