Jim Culver, Generalist and Back-up After browsing multiple deck ideas on here, I noticed people going for spells like Shrivelling and it left me confused: Why go for cards that punishes the player for drawing a symbol? In my probably untrained eye, one of Jim's core strengths might have gone completely unnoticed:

Negating the Elder Sign (treat a token as a token) Spells like Azure Flame, Clairvoyance and Ineffable Truth tend to punish players for drawing a , +1 or 0 token, but not other tokens with a value of 0. Since Jim Culver can treat the token as a token whenever it is most advantageous to him, and tokens are worth 0, he can avoid burning himself with an Azure Flame, Shocking himself with a Clairvoyance, or ruining himself with a Ineffable Truth.

You can enhance that with a Crystalline Elder Sign (for the +1) and a Shards of the Void: With those cards in play, Jim becomes immune to negative feedback. If you want to double down, or be more multiplayer-friendly, Nkosi Mabati combined with a Dark Prophecy, Olive McBride and/or Grotesque Statue (which, as many pointed out rightfully, can be further enhanced with a Scavenging) can all but ensure you get whatever result you want, whenever you want it, making Jim the most reliable Mystic around.

Am I getting something horribly wrong? Was my mind rotted by playing mostly standard? Is there a weakness to this deck I haven't noticed yet?

As of yet, I haven't introduced this deck into a multiplayer game, but solo against the first scenario of the Night of the Zealot Revisited, losing Wither to Through the Gates, being hit with Final Rhapsody, and with a single Azure Flame to defend his life (and Ineffable Truth buying time and tenderizing the Ghoul Priest), he succeeded in rallying Lita Chantler, burning down his own home and sixth sensed every single clue without amazing luck (outside of never drawing Grasping Hands ).

EDIT: Solo players should definitely replace A Test of Will with Lone Wolf, and the greater reliability of Jim Culver through bringing both the AND to a value of 0 would make the Crystal Pendulum a solid choice as well.

This deck looks fun! It looks like your resource economy is going to be a big struggle though. Lots of 3+ cost cards and currently your only resource accelerator is Uncage the Soul. Emergency Cache or Voice of Ra could help with that. Alternatively, your off-class deck slots could go towards Faustian Bargain or Crack the Case, either of which would REALLY help. David Renfield would also be dope!

I imagine a large portion of decks were posted before Jacqueline Fine's deck was released.

@Dummy Doctor I tried it in multiplayer, at the jungle's entrance, and your assessment was 100% spot on. This deck's weakness was enhanced by a Peril Treachery that robbed us of 2 resources a couple of times.

Let's say the deck can't be changed, except with spending XP. Would you go for Jewel of Aureolus, Emergency Cache, or Versatile adding the cards you suggested?

With no added weakness, I'd be reluctant to dilute the deck. But it does mean getting rid of cards like A Test of Will.
