Solo play, easy or standard difficulty
Mulligan for Rook to start cycling minimum 2 cards a turn plus skill draws to get decent assets quicker. Aim for Rook, cleaver, hypnotic/therapy, and a booster asset. She uses around 14-15 resources by mid agenda for fighting chance (basic assets and clue gathering). Always play Rook first thing and use his ability every round.
Meat cleaver synergy with unique talent and weakness (she can use because it heals horror). Take horror to add damage, heal horror on yourself with kill and get one resource. And remember, cleaver kills heal Rational Thought (card reads as if horror were on Carolyn, cleaver kill heals horror on Carolyn).
Save the take initiative for difficult treachery encounters, daring/vicious for elite combat encounters.
Two to three cost high shroud multiple clue gathering: End turn => on hunt, scene of crime; mid-turn, read signs and inquiring.
Upgrade with Versatile, Charisma, and your route of choice: Combat — w/ Beat Cop(2), Ace of Swords; Mystic — Xavier and Four of Cups, storm; as well as an auto evade/disengage or scavenger/burglary as the off-class card. Premonition (for standard), quantum flux (once you have a Mr Rook, use just before you heal rational thought), can take up few remaining non-horror seeker/mystic slots. For some reason deck builders do not show Timeworn Brand as option.
If you’re unfortunate enough to draw Tower basic weakness like me, you’ll need to upgrade w/ charisma Anna Kaslow and forego the ally stat boost. But then you can get both Ace and Four tarots I suppose. If you can find the extra resources to play them.
Any suggestions for doing significant reliable damage with this investigator welcome (um, other than healing Agnes). And I would really like to know why Timeworn Brand is inaccessible to her.
Timeworn Brand is not available to Carolyn because her deckbuilding includes a restriction disallowing weapons level 1-5. Therapists should heal, and not harm!
Solo Carolyn is a real challenge! If you have access to them, I would love to suggest trying her book promo specials - Foolishness and To Fight the Black Wind. Although To Fight the Black Wind is a brutal weakness, Foolishness' stat boost is a major boon when you have to defeat enemies yourself.
